Throughout my life I have always marvelled at classic art. I appreciate the workmanship in a painting or the craftmanship in achetecture or of a sculpture or woodwork. I grew up in the historical city of Canterbury in England. The seat of significant British history. I spent many hours wandering through the old town, the cathedral and hisitoric buildings. I believe that it was this background which instilled in me that appreciation for exquisite craftmanship and artistic excellence.

I love detail, not ostentatious detail but realistic detail. My subject choices span seascapes to portraits (of my children and grandchildren), to pets and currently, birds. I have to be excited about my topic, it has to challenge me. If it takes me many hours to complete, then that's fine with me. It's all about detail. It's all about artistic excellence. I get a tremendous sence of achievement when it's finished.

Oil paint is my first love, its what I started painting with in high school and continued to occasionally use sporadcally throughout my life, but my career and family commitments stalled my creative side and it wasn't until I retired that I could totally indulge my artistic passion. Now I use acrylic or oil paint, but my first love is still oils.
